Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most distinguished composers and musicians. He was born in Eisenach on 21st March 1685. He belonged to a great The Bachs family, in which every generation represented a higher level in the history of music. He was an organist, a violinist and a singer. He was also a teacher and a conductor. During his days, however, he was appreciated only as a very good organ virtuoso and an expert of the organ's construction. During his life he was moving from one place to the other to find better living conditions and a better-paid job. All his life can be divided into 5 periods of artistic creativity: Arnstadt, Mühlhausen, Weimar, Köthen, Lipsk. He was not famous as a compositor during his life, only further generations discovered his genius. All his life he was creating utilitarian music. Living according to the idea "Soli Deo Gloria" - everything to the praise of God he was a symbol of modesty in his service to art. The most important compositions: over 200 religious and secular cantatas, h-moll Mass, 2 Passions - of St Mathew and St. John, Magnificat, compositions for orchestra (6 Brandenburg's Concerts, suites), compositions for the organ and the piano (Das Wohltemperierte Klavier). He died in Lipsk on 28th July 1750.
