  •     Glenn Gould and Bach

Among numerous recordings and interpretations of Bach's music, those of Glenn Gould (1932 -1982) are regarded to be the most beautiful sill constituting an object of delight of a wide music lovers' audience. Glenn Gould, first of all, played the piano and it should be noticed that the tone of this instrument achieved by Gould was unique. His special articulation of sounds together with such elements as tempo, dynamism, rhythm and melody, all together contributed to the creation of such a peculiar sound of his music that it cannot be mistaken with any other. Gould with his interpretation provided us with some keys for understanding of Bach's music, that not always seems to be clear. Another famous pianist, Murray Perahia, said: "Gould revealed us a thing that had not been perceived by anybody else in the Bach's compositions (...) and simultaneously he taught us that the role of the executor was not to serve but to provoke the art and thus to reveal not only the most beautiful but also the most difficult to bear."

"...Although love for music does not necessarily mean love for the composers of all the times, the true love for music, however, cannot exist without the love for Bach."

    Dimitrij Kobalewski
